Albanian Central Bank Keeps Benchmark Rate Unchanged At 1.25 Pct

The Bank of Albania Wednesday informed it decided to keep its key interest rate unchanged at the current level of 1.25 percent.

Following the reviewing and approval of monetary policy, the central bank governor Genti Sejko told a press conference that the latest economic developments indicated that Albanian economy is maintaining a positive growth trend.

The bank governor confirmed the data released earlier by Albanian institute of statistics which showed that Albanian economy grew by 4.06 percent in the second quarter of 2017.

"Credit to the private sector grew by 2 percent, whereas consumer credit demand has expanded," Sejko told reporters.

According to Sejko, the increase in employment and income, the improvement of financing conditions and the improvement of confidence in production sectors have supported the expansion of consumption and private investments.
